Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Bid Manager to join our growing business development team. Your primary responsibility will be to work with Sector leads to manage all bid preparation tasks and own the delivery of winning bids. You will be a natural coach who thrives on developing people in the end-to-end process and skills required to deliver bids.

The role is highly networked role requiring an ability to manage and motivate a matrix managed team and requires an ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines. The role requires excellent organisational, planning, interpersonal and people management skills with strong business acumen and commercial skills.

You will have excellent communication skills with an energetic and organised attitude and the ability to identify an appropriate core message and approach required for any bid. Skilled in analysing requirements and collaborating with subject matter experts, both technical and non-technical, with experience in writing high-quality copy, tailored to the audience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and motivate matrix teams to prepare and deliver bids
  • Develop and manage the plan and process for assigned bids and maintain responsibility for the quality and consistency
  • Revise schedules, outlines, and compliance matrixes as necessary throughout bid life cycle
  • Work with Sector Leads to develop and agree win strategy and themes, executive summaries, and validation of our value proposition
  • Understand customer requirements and translate our capabilities and case studies into compelling responses
  • Manage assigned opportunities through the Decision gates
  • Embed a culture of learning and development of the process and skills to develop colleagues
  • Manage creation and quality of content plans
  • Work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of company markets and strategic objectives.
  • Remain current on all modifications/Q&As and communicate them to the team
  • Manage other people’s contributions to submission documents to ensure timely completion
  • Review and edit bid responses for consistency, compliance, win theme incorporation, solution accuracy, and other elements during regular and core team review cycles to create the final bid submission
  • Create presentations using PowerPoint and coach individuals and teams on presentation best practice
  • Lead the team by bringing ideas for improving the process including protocols for bid development, tracking and monitoring, and recommending opportunities for improvement and efficiency.


  • Extensive experience in a bid management role in technology industry
  • Demonstrable experience and capability in delivering £20m+ winning bids
  • Expert knowledge of bidding best practice techniques, e.g., Shipley, APMP
  • Excellent English language writing skills, both technical and non-technical, with experience in writing high-quality copy, tailored to the audience
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with an ability to manage a diverse range of tasks, involving different people and different activities to tight deadlines
  • Highly computer literate with an eye for design and an accomplished ability to use Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Confident communicator both verbally, written and visually
  • Expert ability to develop compelling themes, discriminators, and messaging to communicate and support value proposition
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to interface with all levels of management, bid teams, SMEs, peers, and teaming partners
  • Ability to lead development of graphics that support win themes, solution, and key messaging
  • Ability to create original content using interview and research techniques
  • Strong commercial understanding, P&L and risk management skills.

Desired candidate profile

  • APMP Practitioner or Professional level would be an asset
  • Project management qualification would be an asset
