Đặng Thị Mỹ Tiên, Senior Consultant
“I was the first one in my family to go to university. It was a hard decision for me to make. But the right decision because it allowed me to pursue a career in IT”
But it wasn’t always in the cards for Tien to pursue a career in IT. Growing up as an only child in a small town, the most common thing was to get married and start a family at a young age. But this was not the life Tien imagined for herself – she wanted an education. “I was the first one in my family to go to university. So, it was a very big deal and a hard decision for me to make. At first, my parents didn’t understand me, but I explained to them, why this was the right thing for me to do, and they eventually ended up supporting my choice.”
The beginning of a thrilling career journey
When Tien was 18 years old, she moved to Ho Chi Minh City – approximately 150 km away from her hometown – to study computer science at Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology. Here, she lived a busy life, studying and working at the same time.
In 2020 Tien decided to take a step back to figure out what she really wanted to do. That was when she stumbled upon a vacancy at Netcompany, where she could combine her skills in coding, analysis and designing. Tien applied for the job and was invited for an interview. “During the interview process, I was treated as an equal to the managers who interviewed me. That was when it all ‘clicked’ for me, and I knew that it was the right match! And luckily, I got offered the job.”
Being your authentic self
It did not take long for Tien to settle into Netcompany, and she cherishes how the Netcompany culture seems to make room for everyone. “At Netcompany, you can be your authentic self at work and that means a lot to me.”
Tien appreciates working at a company where she can develop herself professionally but also share her enthusiasm for culture with her colleagues. “I like listening to music. Especially rock and metal. This is an interest that I share with some of my colleagues, and I think it is great that we can share our hobbies together through different clubs and our After Dark community.”
I can always turn to my colleagues for guidance
During her time at Netcompany, Tien has worked on various projects within the public sector. She is often faced with new and challenging tasks, but she never feels alone. “Sometimes I get stuck and need assistance, but I know that I can always ask for help. This makes me feel secure while doing my job, but it also allows me to be an even better consultant.”
As for her future aspirations, she is still undecided. “For now, I want to learn as much as possible and try out different things, and I believe that Netcompany is able to support me in this.”
