Bankdata – new Microsoft Business Intelligence platform

Bankdata supplies a complete IT-solution for the financial sector. The company is owned by 15 agencies who are also customers. Bankdata had an old datawarehouse and BI front-end tools that no longer could keep up with today’s demand of agility, smart reporting and self-service options.

Bankdata is an organisation with many interests, including 15 financial agencies of varying sizes and therefore different needs from BI. It was thus a vital requirement that the solution works as general platform for financial institutions, but also that the individual financial institutions could use the solution independently. In other words, they needed a combination of a self-service BI for each of the financial institutions and finished and useful components which meet their common needs.

After launching the solution, customers can access Bankdata for support and to buy services on the platform. It was critical that the solution was fully established at Bankdata – both operations and maintenance, and also the necessary expertise on Microsoft BI-suite on-site to provide efficient support.

Netcompany and Bankdata have, in close partnership, delivered a solution based on the Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 platform. Every financial institution has gotten their own BI-portal that offers the users tools, such as: Reporting Services, PerformancePoint Services, Excel Services and PowerPivot.
From the BI-portals, the users can collaborate on data, receive new standard reports, delivered by Bankdata within all of the tools, as well as modify or build new reports.
Each financial institution can personally administrate security on every level inside their portals, as well as build further on the structure with new subsections, department specific sites, and more in that vein.

The BI- solution has been launched and is used by all 15 financial institutions.

Bankdata’s old BI-solution offers the user a large datawarehouse on a Microsoft SQL Server. The large banks, especially, suffered very long response-times because the amount of data was too extreme.

In the new BI-solution, there is set a number of OLAP-cubes in the Analysis Service that is offered to the financial institutions for a selection of data, where the prior performance had been particularly bad.

Now, with the OLAP-cubes, banks get a response almost immediately - this is true even for the largest banks. The cubes furthermore provide the user with many more analytical options, in the use of Excel and Performance Point Service, to navigate around in the data universe and analyse links among the data – all in a much more intuitive and user-friendly way than before.
