Elliot Budd - From graduate at University of Birmingham to Consultant at Netcompany

Meet Elliot, Consultant at Netcompany, who spent his first few weeks in the Vietnam office after graduating from the University of Birmingham. Elliot shares his experiences working on exciting projects and the social events at Netcompany and will be visiting the University of Birmingham to meet students interested in our graduate opportunities.

I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2018 where I studied Physics. I was attracted to Netcompany by the exciting projects in a variety of different sectors ranging from the Energy industry to Government projects. Netcompany also has offices all over the world including the UK, Denmark, Poland, Norway, the Netherlands and Vietnam.

After joining just over a year ago I was lucky enough to be positioned in Vietnam for the first 4 weeks of my time at Netcompany. Based in Ho Chi Minh City I worked along with the Vietnamese development team working on my front-end programming skills and learning more about Netcompany’s software development process and methodologies. Working abroad was an amazing experienced, there is a great working culture there with table tennis tournaments, regular office lunches and fantastic food.

Being a Consultant at Netcompany allows me the flexibility to try different roles meaning I have been able to gain experience in Business Analysis, Software Development, Testing and Architecture. The amount of client exposure we have here means that I am now more than comfortable participating and leading high stakes meetings and react to challenges faced.

Despite the relatively small amount of programming I did during my Physics degree, I found that because I understood the fundamentals, it was all highly transferable and I picked new things up quickly. Training and continuous learning was something I was looking for when I first joined and Netcompany has a structured academy programme for all employees which allows you to develop technical and non-technical skills through seminars, courses and online learning. I have also found that getting hands-on experience in projects and being given responsibility from the start has been the best way of quickly learning.

The social aspect of Netcompany is another great part of working here, we have monthly socials and events that take place throughout the year. As a company, we definitely like to have fun, with our Summer and Christmas parties it is a great chance to meet people from the other UK offices.
